Chitral: With the collaboration of Khowar Academy Karachi and Wikimedia
Foundation "Khowar Wikipedia" has been started and created by the Chitrali poet,
journalist and Pakistani Wikipedian Rehmat Aziz Chitrali on 25th April 2010, is
the Khowar language edition of Wikipedia, a free, open-content encyclopedia. As
Wikipedia started being multilingual in May 2001. As of December 2007, Wikipedia
had approximately 9.25 million articles in 253 languages. The original site
address for Khowar Wikipedia is http://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wp/khw and
all pages were written in the Khowar alphabet.
At first, Khowar Wikipedia faced technical problems with the Khowar script font,
but now this matter is mostly settled. Khowar language is written in
Perso-Arabic script, a right-to-left writing system. As a result, users
sometimes need to configure their operating systems and web browsers
Currently Khowar Wikipedia uses "Khowar Naskh Asiatype" font, created by Rehmat
Aziz Chitrali which was introduced by Khowar Academy Karachi and is freely
distributed by this academy in their website. The font is primarily used for
article bodies and headings. Khowar variation of Times New Roman is used for
navigation links. Both of these fonts are variations of Naskh style.
Some Pakistani variations of complex Nasta'liq script are also supported only as
a secondary choice in class definitions of CSS, i.e. if default font is not
found on client system, then Nasta'liq script is used.
The translation of the Khowar Wikipedia interface and project information pages
into Khowar is still in progress. The members of Khowar Academy are translating
the articles into Khowar. More than 500 pages about how to edit have been
translated by Rehmat Aziz Chitrali.
This series of pages is for wikipedia in the Khowar language. Your Khowar input
here will be appreciated. Because this is a test-wikipedia all articles here
must begin with the format [[Wp/khw/Name of article]]. For example, an article
about Yarkhoon should be titled here as Wp/khw/Yarkhoon. (Of course in the
actual wikipedia, the article would be titled as [[Yarkhoon]]
Khowar speakers are encouraged to create as many top-quality articles as
possible. Our email address is khowarwikipedia@... or
